Academic Challenge  |  Case Study Competition

Academic Challenge

Submissions will be evaluated against the following criteria with a maximum score of 100 points. All challenge participants will receive a Phoenix Integration t-shirt for their efforts. All participants will be notified of their scores by February 1, 2009. The top three case study submissions, which meet the evaluation criteria below will also be named by February 1, 2009. These three winners will be rewarded with cash prizes as follows: 1st place, $300.00; 2nd place, $200.00; 3rd place, $100.00

EVALUATION CRITERIA

All submissions must contain the following to be considered:

  1. Working ModelCenter Model
  2. All Analysis Server Wrappers including input files, output files, executables, etc.
  3. All source code for executables
    (Except in the case where the executable is a third party tool, i.e. Microsoft Excel)
  4. Instructions to properly set up and run the Model and analyses

I.   ModelCenter Model   

  • Complete, coherent set-up instructions   (12 points)
  • Ease to set-up and run the Model   (12 points)

II.   Completeness of Analysis Server Analyses

  • Clear descriptions of wrapper, variable and use of variable units   (8 points)
  • Clear wrapper comments where applicable   (8 points)
  • Clear code comments for executables' source code   (8 points)
  • Variable formatting for appropriate variables, i.e. cost   (3 points)

III.   Documentation: Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF
Note: Special attention will be given to completeness and clarity of documentaion.
A minimum documentation score of 18 is required for further consideration.

  • Describe the Model, its purpose, and the problem to be solved   (12 points)
  • Describe the associated wrappers and analysis codes in detail. Include all relevant information, i.e. how it works, why it was used   (12 points)

IV.   Overall Value

  • Robustness of Model/Analyses   (10 points)
  • Elegance of case study solution   (5 points)
  • Utilization of geometry in ModelCenter   (5 points)
  • Utilization of ModelCenter trade study tools, visualization tools and other applicable features to solve and verify the solution   (5 points)

COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS & DETAILS

Deadline: Submissions are due by December 1, 2008
Notification: You will receive your score on or before February 1, 2009. The top three case studies will be named and winners notified on or before February 1, 2009.
Awards: 1st place, $300.00; 2nd place, $200.; 3rd place, $100.00
