DRDC Joint Program Office uses Phoenix's ModelCenterâ for Optimization of Systems of Systems
The joint program office of the Defense Research and Development Canada "DRDC" deployed the use of Phoenix's ModelCenter as part of a technology demonstration program in an effort to meet the capability based planning needs of the Canadian Department of Defense.
Phoenix's Darwin Optimizer was utilized to determine the best mix of systems that could meet the capability based performance requirements of the DND at the lowest cost. Thirteen scenarios and nine potential systems were analyzed to determine the best combination of systems.
"Four teams participated in the technology demonstration program. These teams included a requirements team, an operational team, system architecture team and an option analysis team. Each team utilized multiple software applications to demonstrate its ability to meet the capability planning needs of the DND.
ModelCenter was used within the option analysis team to integrate these disparate tools and optimize the results. Our models were so complex, highly non liner and discontinuous; the only solution was to use Phoenix’s Darwin Optimizer to solve our optimization problem."
