In this webcast we illustrated several multidisciplinary techniques that are useful for decomposing and optimizing complex systems, in particular, the use of techniques to effectively optimize performance at the sub-system level as well as the whole system level. Simulation tools were described to assist engineers in the development of integrated models to perform complex systems analysis.

The webcast included a special guest presentation and Q&A session with Dr. Jaroslaw Sobieski, a pioneer in the field of Multidisciplinary Optimization and system decomposition techniques.

The techniques described are applicable to the aerospace, automotive, electronics, and other similar fields where complex systems engineering studies are used to evaluate and maximize performance.

Phoenix provided a short overview and Q&A session with examples on the following topics:

  • Strategies for decomposing systems for easier analysis
  • Avoiding pitfalls in problem formulation.
  • Setting up goals and limits using constraints.
  • Visualizing results.
