Phoenix Integration and Boeing presented a roadmap for how to implement key techniques for concept evaluation and optimization. We highlighted means of applying advanced modeling & simulation tools to extract the impact of new technologies. A hypersonic design study was shown as an example.
Boeing and Phoenix are pioneering new methods in multidisciplinary analysis. Advanced aerospace vehicle and product performance requires tight integration of physical, economic, and component designs. Achieving the desired level of quantification challenges conventional design paradigms and suggests the use of more powerful unconventional approaches to achieve success. Such approaches include parametric configuration definition, high-fidelity discipline analysis, multidisciplinary optimization, and risk/uncertainty analysis to name a few. Hypersonic air-breathing vehicle designs were used to illustrate the application and benefits of advanced modeling & simulation tools. Software tools (ModelCenter, CenterLink, Design Explorer) from Phoenix and Boeing were described as enabling technologies to implement a successful design environment.
