Overview:
CIFE is a leading research center for virtual design and construction of Architecture – Engineering – Construction (AEC) industry projects. Advancements in computer-based product modeling and analysis make it possible for AEC professionals to accurately simulate product performance in an increasing number of areas (architecture, structure, energy, lighting, cost, etc.). However, the potential for these disciplines to inform early stage design decisions has been limited by the time and effort required to manually run and exchange information between analysis tools when performing trades.
PHX ModelCenter® allows engineers to integrate disparate software applications into a multi-disciplinary analysis model. A model can then be driven by various types of trade study tools to explore the design space. The research presented will show how PHX ModelCenter® can be used to optimize a building’s structural, energy and cost performance by varying orientation, form, and materials.
